Well this morning I had a very long and wonderful conversation/interview with Richard Taylor. He was very generous with his time (the interview ran nearly 2 hours) and this is the first installment of that conversation.
Tomorrow morning I will be having a phone conversation/interview with Richard Winn Taylor, who was the lead designer on Star Trek: The Motion Picture for Robert Abel & Associates, and who was responsible for the overall design of the USS Enterprise filming miniature for the film (as well as all the other spacecraft, as well as collaboration on the sets).
I received a comment and question in last night’s post about some of the warp nacelle flux chiller grill work I have been modeling. In that post I mentioned I was hopefully going to be talking with Richard Taylor about the design and building of the warp nacelles, and asked if other modelers/Trekkers had some questions for Mr. Taylor when I talk to him next week.
Just a late night update on some 3D modeling I have been doing on some warp nacelle flux chiller grills. I have been focusing the past several weeks, when I can, on working out the very subtle compound curves for the chiller grills.
While I wait to see about a line on possibly obtaining some long-sought after workbee filming miniature reference photos, I have been doing some illustrating and 3D modeling in order to help out a Facebook friend’s project. He and few others have been working on blueprints for a “refit”-era, i.e. within the timeframe that Star Trek: The Motion Picture (ST:TMP) is set, Federation-class dreadnought.
Well back in December I had a motherboard and drive issue with my iMac, and after that, was my son coming home for the holiday, then I took a slight break from the workbee while I still try and get better reference material for the aft view of it as well as the enigmatic bottom view.
